Analysis of two project proposals

• Addresses a question that the poorer proposal does not: What is the relationship between previous work and the students’ project? • Avoids a question addressed in the poorer proposal: What are the long-range applications of the work they are doing? • States the goal very specifically (“to develop a ball-on-plate tracking system”) whereas the goal for the poorer proposal (“to build a tracking system that may be used for many purposes”) seems more nebulous, less well-defined • Gives only a succinct overview of components, mentioning key components and stating briefly what each will do. The poorer Introduction goes into great detail about the components, not only mentioning what they are and what they do, but also indicating where they are located in relation to each other. • Mentions specifications that appear to set criteria the overall design must meet, while in the other proposal, the some of the specifications seem to pertain to individual components rather than the overall design.
